Kirkby Lonsdale has had a Market Charter since 1227. The original market was situated at the corner of Main Street and Market Street before being relocated to the town’s elegant Georgian square, overlooked at one end by The Royal Hotel, made famous by a visit by Queen Adelaide in 1840, and at the other by the old bank.
Kirkby Lonsdale’s Thursday market attracts visitors and locals alike with a good range of stalls offering everything from local produce to souvenirs, plants and jewellery. The Country Market held in the Lunesdale Hall between 10am and 12 noon on market day is also a great source of home-made goods, including bread, cakes, jams and preserves, plus hand-crafted home and personal accessories. There are other markets in and around the Lune Valley: at Sedbergh (Wednesday), Kendal (Wednesday and Saturday) and Milnthorpe on a Friday.
Community gazebos are available for use by local schools, community groups, startups, local retailers and charities. General stallholder spaces available throughout the year.
