Message from the Town Council
Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council welcomes the community’s positive response to coping with the restrictions imposed because of CV-19. Here is a message from the Chair:
“The town’s Coronavirus Mutual Aid Group, working with our churches and other groups, which has made itself known through leaflets and social media, has set itself a tremendous task and deserves support from all who can provide it. That includes from the Town Council.
The Town Council cannot hold meetings in public during the current crisis. This severely hampers its decision-making processes, which should follow legally established procedures.
Despite these difficulties, town councillors have unanimously agreed to a proposal, which was discussed by email, to grant £600 towards the work of the mutual aid group.
We also welcome the action of the Community Interest Company who have closed the visitor information shop temporarily to enable it to be used as the Mutual Aid Group hub. Individuals are looking after their neighbours on every street and there is doubtless other support work going on which is not known to everyone.
No one can forecast what will happen during the next few weeks or months. The Mutual Aid Group, like everyone else, will face challenges which will require unpredictable responses. If we all work together, supporting each other where possible, there will be an end to this crisis.
As town council Chairman, I thank everyone for doing what they can to help others.”
