Glorious! the story of Florence Foster Jenkins
The Heron Theatre, Beetham
From Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd April 2022 the Heron Theatre Beetham will present ‘Glorious!’ the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, ‘the worst singer in the world’. Performances are nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
Great plays are always produced from great stories and/or great characters, and what a character Florence Foster Jenkins was. Her eventual and final appearance was at a sell-out concert at the Carnegie Hall, New York, where she sang in 1944 to a packed house of 3,000 people. But regrettably the eccentric socialite could not really sing and was dubbed the ‘worst opera singer in the world’.
A film version in 2016 with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, was immensely successful. This lunatically funny stage version will make you very happy.

The Heron Theatre
The Heron Theatre is a listed building which was formerly the local 18th century two-room Grammar School in Beetham. Located just off the A6, between Carnforth and Milnthorpe, on the southern fringes of the Lake District, the theatre has comfortable raked seating for 80, with the Box Office and Bar located in the pleasant foyer and exhibition area.
We trace our origins to 1948, when a local headmaster formed an ambitious amateur drama group in South Westmorland. This flourished through the years, mainly through the performance of plays, together with film shows and literary events.
The theatre is situated in Stanley Street, Beetham, LA7 7AS
